Happy Birthday Cole!

Cole David Bartley
Arrived
Thursday night, January 27th at 10:18
8 lbs ~ 20.5inches

*Warning, I have no time or ability to filter these pictures out, so I'm posting them all, hope it doesn't blow up your computer*

Thursday we all spent the day at Grammy's house because I had my 39 week check up down south. After the appointment Collin worked and I met up with Grammy and the boys at the Austin zoo. Later that night we headed back to our house and got the boys in bed. Just as we started to relax for the evening via some American Idol :) At 8:50 I felt something pop in my back. Collin immediately asked what happened and I sat still in the chair trying to figure out what it was b/c I couldn't tell. But when I stood up sure enough, my water had broken. At almost the exact same time of day and day of pregnancy as with Caleb. After celebrating the soon to be end of pregnancy and arrival of Cole by jumping up and down we rushed to the car to head to the hospital. We had been warned over and over that my labor could be fast so we hurried to load the sleeping kids into the car and lock the doors. I started to get some overnight bags for the boys but as contractions began I got nervous and went to sit in the car...Five minutes later we were on our way!
I started timing my contractions on the way and they were already 5 minutes apart to begin with. Perhaps I shouldn't have shared the info with Collin because he spent most of the drive with our hazards on honking at people in the fast lane to yield....it was very impressive.

We got to the hospital at 9:30 and switched cars with Grampy (and Uncle Will) so they could take the kids home to bed. As soon as we walked into the ER to check in, Collin told the nurse that my contractions were already 3 minutes apart. Didn't take them long to bring me up to labor and delivery after that!

Here we are after getting checked in at about 9:45. My contractions are getting stronger, but I'm still just breathing through them, and ok in between. Soon after this I tell Collin and my mom to stop talking and stand by the wall... I guess they started getting stronger then :)

Then my doula, Majbritt, arrives which is a big relief to me. I can't begin to say how thankful I was that we decided to hire her. Doulas are labor coaches and support for moms throughout labor. She was there to help me breathe and do massage, plus just having her there as someone who knew who I was and what I was hoping to have for my delivery (I really wanted a natural, drug free birth...wish granted) When you show up at the hospital you are so vulnerable and the nurses are there to do paperwork and the checklist of setting things up. My doctor was out of town and the doctor on call literally walked in seconds before Cole was born. I kept telling them that Cole was coming quickly and I felt like they weren't listening at all, but my doula was right there helping me breath and telling me I was doing great. As a side note, I did have a wonderful husband and mom (and even my dad hiding behind the door) there, and they would have done anything to help, but in the middle of labor Majbritt was exactly the support person I needed. I would recommend hiring a doula to anyone!

Don't be confused this is like the 30 second break between contractions, the rest of the time I'm not smiling....

Its about 10:00 here, and I can feel that Cole is coming. Right after this the nurse brings in a stack of papers for me to sign...I was not thrilled with her.

Literally minutes before Cole (its about 10:15) is born they move me from the triage room to the delivery room...I think I am in some sort of hormone induced state b/c I remember feeling so funny as they wheel me down the hall...

The dialogue of this moment when something like "He is coming...ahhh..ahh..get it out...get it out" and then....

He is born, 10:18! Exactly one hour and 28 minutes after we were sitting at home watching American Idol...I guess he was in a rush like his Daddy is when traveling :)

The next morning...

Grammy was with Caden and Caleb from Thursday to Sunday...but she got a break to come and visit the newest grand baby..
Saturday night we got to come home at 10pm, because we had to wait 48 hours exactly. So, we spent our first night at Grammy and Grampy's house. Cole got to watch UT basketball with Dad and Grampy.
This is how we found the boys that night! Caleb crawled into bed with Caden, so cute.
And this is how things go at Grammy's house. That is a huge icing topped chocolate chip cookie-for breakfast-- don't worry we've had lots of vegetables lately to make up for it.

And since we've been home from the hospital I haven't had any picture taking time until yesterday! I suppose it could be related to the 3 little ones, 4 doctors visits, and a house full of fun.
Although, I have to brag on Collin who has been Mr. Mommy. He has taken over full time cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the older two boys. I am completely in awe! He even brought me breakfast in bed yesterday. I know, I'm a lucky girl!
So to make up for not taking pictures all week, I took about 200 yesterday (literally). I can't pick a few, you'll have to tell me which you like best!

Don't Think About Having a Baby...

Its all about your "attitude" when you are 37.5 weeks pregnant...
Just whatever you do, don't think about having a baby
...and then you won't go crazy...
You can spend the entire 30 minutes of you kid's bathtime taking pictures of your huge pregnant belly as long as you
don't think about having a baby...

You can take a picture to put on the thank you card for the surprise diaper showing you got last week...as long as you...
don't think about actually having a baby...

You can even play with your kids and build the biggest train track possible using every piece as long as while you do it you
don't think about having a baby...

But at the end of the day everyone knows that all you can really think about...
is having a baby!
Darn, I tried...

Clues Abound

If you look closely around our house these days, you would probably notice that "clues abound" as the to upcoming arrival of one very important new family member...

Posted by Picasa

... of course some are more obvious than others :)

Supposedly, I am 26 days from my due date, but I predict that Baby Cole will be here by next week or just maybe the week after that. How do I know this?
Well, I am the one that is pregnant, right?
...and my doctor visit last week showed that I'm pretty close to labor...
...and I can't possible keep this baby in here for 3 whole more weeks!

New Years Eve

We have had SOOO much fun with Daddy being home for a whole week at Christmas!
New Year's Eve we spent the whole day just hanging out together...
First, a trip to the park in our neighborhood. This is taken next to the creek where the boys literally spent an hour throwing rocks into the water :)

Then, it was time for our "fireworks show"... not Daddy's favorite thing to have a $10 budget, but the boys enjoyed it!

And the grand finale:
First ever movie night in the boy's room! Collin set up the tv on their dresser and we watched the movie Up, and enjoyed popcorn, chocolate chip cookies, & milk. The movie ended and the boys went to bed at 8:30.
Collin and I watched about 2 hours of Back to the Future, saw the ball drop live NYC time at 11pm here, and we were all fast asleep as the new year quietly arrived.

Most definitely my favorite New Year's Eve ever!
