Caleb is 4!!!

Ok so it was a few weeks ago, I am sorry! I know there are grandparents and great grandparents who are missing these blogs lately!

Our amazing friend Gina from church surprised Caleb with this angry birds cake on his birthday. It was beyond belief how talented she is!!! Caleb was in love, he just sat and stared at the cake for the longest time and then they wanted to "play" it and knock everything down. Which would have been so sad if eating that thing was any less delicious that it was... oh man, I will not admit how many pieces of cake I ate that weekend, yum!
Caleb also got some birthday money which he used to pick out....drum roll...angry bird toys.

For anyone interested, on November the 8th, the makers of the angry bird app are release a Star Wars Angry Birds option. I do not think the boys (and grown up boys) in my household are going to be able to sleep that whole week....Collin already finished shopping for the boys Christmas stuff...please do not purchase Angry Birds Star Wars paraphernalia, I can assure you that we already have it sitting in our closet :)

Cole, 20 months

Caden is turning 6 next month

Heres our Sweet Berry Farm pictures for the year, none with pumpkins (seriously?) but we had a blast, its such a fun tradition!

Labor Day Hunt

We drove to West Texas this weekend for a Labor Day dove hunt at the ranch.

Caden got to shoot for the first time-

The dove all lived, but the beer bottle was toast

Fall may be right around the corner, but it still hit 100

Of course the end of the day makes all that sweating worth while up there.

It would have been incomplete without some campfire smores.

This just does not do justice to the moonrise, but I had to try.

Fun trip, even worth the 13 hours in the car with little kids!

Ready, Set, Kindergarten!

We've been discussing it all summer, well for 2 years to be fair. Counting down the days until Kindergarten started! And then suddenly it was the end of the summer...and then it was the night before.

Goodbye hug from little brother!

First day picture with his sweet sweet teacher (I already love her!)

Posing by his locker
(moms get a little camera happy on the first day
...they are trying desperately to delay the goodbyes)

At his desk!

A little word of maternal wisdom. First day of kindergarten for a mommy =
Prepare to take your heart out of your chest, leave it in the tiny kid sized chair, and walk out the door :(
I so did not understand this moment a few years ago, but I have new insight now.
Its not that I haven't been away from Caden for periods of time before, its the start of a huge new phase in his life. And a phase that is done without mommy who has been there all day every day for 5 years.
I've thought so much about my last 5 years with Caden in these last weeks of waiting for the big day. I think that is what I didn't understand beforehand. Everyone else sees this:

But I see this:

and this:
 and this:
and this:

So that is why moms walk away from that kindergarten room crying.
On the up side, picking him up was just as sweet as dropping off was sorrowful!

Yay Kindergarten! We made it here and we made it through the first day!
